Stolen "Copper Chopper"
Recovered Following
News Cast

2007

Moore Heat & Air, LLC has their "Copper Chopper" back in their shop safe and sound after it had been stolen following the Bikes, Clues, and BBQ festival in Fayetteville.

Cabot, Arkansas October 12, 2007 -- Moore Heat & Air, of Cabot offered a $200. reward for the return of their winning entry in a creative contest that was stolen following the Bikes, Blues, and BBQ Festival in Fayetteville. The "Copper Chopper" has become known as their "company mascot," since at least nine of their sixteen employees ride motorcycles. After a local news cast on KNWA, Moore Heat & Air received a phone cal that the "Copper Chopper" had been picked up by someone that had been told that everything out there was just trash. The family who had the chopper wished to remain anonymous. The family was given the $200. reward for returning the bike. "I am just glad that someone took it because it was cool and not just for the copper. With so much copper theft going on these days, we were afraid that it had been scrapped for the copper, and we would never see it again," said Sherry Mash of Moore Heat & Air.

The "Copper Chopper" was built from air conditioning parts by a team of employees of Moore Heat & Air, of Cabot as part of the Metal Melee contest held by Totaline of Arkansas. Components used to make up the creation included copper tubing, tubing insulation, a Puron refrigerant drum, a blower motor, a set of refrigerant gauges, 2 nut drivers, 2 squirrel cage blower housings, a sheet metal wye fitting, a filter drier, a capacitor, and other various pieces fabricated from sheet metal.

Totaline is an air conditioning parts supplier with locations in Little Rock, Texarkana, and Springdale. In January, Totaline invited HVAC dealers and contractors to participate in its First Annual Metal Melee. The contest was designed to recognize the craftsmanship of metal fabricators and technicians across the state. Metal creations could be either functional or artistic.

Contest rules were few. 1) Entries had to be completed and turned in to the local Totaline store no later than February 28. 2) Only one entry was allowed from each HVAC dealership or contractor. 3) All items used to construct the entries had to be sold at the local Totaline store. 4) All Creations had to fit in a space of 3 feet x 3 feet x 6 feet.

The Metal Melee entries were displayed at the local Totaline stores in March and April where customers cast their votes for their favorites. The person or team who submitted the winning entry at each location received a 2 night hotel stay and VIP access to the Bikes, Blues, and BBQ festival in Fayetteville, and their winning entry was then displayed at the festival for the general public to judge. The overall winner is to receive a commercial grade cordless drill system from Totaline.
