Taskforce Report on New Mechanical Code
The Code Taskforce recommends the following course for adoption of an updated ARKANSAS MECHANICAL CODE.
- Staff of the HVACR section of the Protective Health Codes section
Of the Arkansas Department of Health begin actively monitoring the status of the 2009 International Mechanical Code, as published by the International Code Council, and begin as soon as possible making modifications to the 2009 International Code, in conjunction with an appropriate committee appointed by the Arkansas HVACR Board.
- In the interim and utilizing the "Alternative Methods" language found in Section 104.3 in the Arkansas Mechanical Code 2003, we propose that the staff of the HVACR section of Protective Health Codes be authorized to permit "Design Professionals" to utilize current standards published by ASHRAE (American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers) to arrive at a minimum quantity of outside ventilation air for any structure currently being designed. Any HVAC design proposing lower than ASHRAE current standards shall be submitted to the Arkansas HVAC Board for review and approval or rejection.
- Staff of the H/VACR section of the Protective Health Codes section of the Arkansas Department of Health make a monthly status report, beginning at the October 2008 meeting, to the Arkansas HVACR Board, regarding the adoption of a 23009 Arkansas Mechanical Code.
